06th August, 10am – 2pm
Meet at Holm of Daltallochan, Carsphairn. Bring walking boots, weather suitable clothing and packed lunch.
The lead mines near Carsphairn are a remnant of a once thriving industry, providing significant employment and at its peak yielding over 900 tonnes of lead a year. This circular walk will be led by Anna Campbell of the Carsphairn Heritage Society, and is in association with the Galloway Glens Scheme. Anna is able to give visitors a flavour of life when the mines were active and the impact this had both locally and further afield. This will be of interest to anyone who is interested in the area’s industrial past and nineteenth century activities in the Carsphairn region.
