Community Archaeology Programme: Can You Dig It?

Lead Partner:
Galloway Glens Scheme

Snapshot:
A series of archaeological activities, open to all, but particularly targeting:

1) Newcomers to the sector seeking an introduction to archaeological techniques
2) Enthusiasts looking to take part in a managed dig.

Activities will include field surveys, geophysics surveys, talks and a range of on-site digs likely to include ‘Kirkcudbright Castles’ and ‘Castle Douglas – Centre of Power’. This exciting programme, professionally designed with the input of Historic Environment Scotland, local volunteer groups and D&G Council’s Archaeologist, will leave participants better informed about archaeological techniques and also better able to understand today’s landscape. Rathmell Archaeology is delivering this project on behalf of the Galloway Glens.

Status: Launch events held in last week of February 2019. Events programe coming soon. See the dedicated ‘Can You Dig It’ Facebook and Twitter pages: @GGLPArchaeology for more details or contact Helen.keron@dumgal.gov.uk to be kept up to date through the CYDI newsletter.
