Historic Mapping Project

Lead Partner:
Dumfries Archival Mapping Project (DAMP)

Obtaining, cataloguing and publicising through a series of talks and events the pre-Ordnance Survey maps of the Galloway Glens Area.

The work will involve a large number of volunteer map hunters who will principally be working with estate owners to locate, catalogue + digitise the pre-1750 maps on the National Library for Scotland website. Once published, the findings will be highlighted and explored through a series of public events. Discussion will focus not only on the maps themselves but how the art of map making has changed, as well as insights the maps give on the landscape itself
